The 157 acres which comprised Tam O’Shanter was no more than a transformed field void of trees, with barren strips of fairway and newly formed greens. The pool area was surrounded by rickety wooden cabanas and two run down tennis courts. The clubhouse was a wood structure of modest size which was set on a hill. Then came a fateful day in 1971. A fire engulfed the clubhouse. The members rallied around this disaster. Trailers were rented for offices, socials were held under tents and golfers changed in the parking lot. Out of this came a stunning contemporary clubhouse. The club’s golf course now rivals any on Long Island. The pool is surrounded by wonderful landscaping, and the tennis complex boasts 6 Har-Tru courts. The active vibrant members of Tam have put the club on the path to a great future while preserving its unique heritage.
