Hi, Robin here. Now, if you’ve played golf for long enough, you’ve probably went through a phase, or you’re in a phase, where the game just feels alien to you. You feel like you’ve lost your natural timing and tempo. You’re arms and your body just don’t seem to match up. You’re getting complicated. You’re going through all the different swing thoughts, trying to find the solution. The main thing is, you’ve lost the trust in your swing. Now, when I see players like this, what I want them to do is to get about the mechanics. You’ve got to get a feeling back in your swing; get the timing and tempo back in your swing to gain the trust back. So, what I suggest is this drill. I call it “3 in a Row.”
You put three golf balls down, and you’re going to hit them consecutively. So you’ll hit the first ball as normal, but rather than stopping, you will now let your arm swing back over the top of the second ball, striking the second ball, and repeat that movement for the third ball. You might find it a little bit difficult initially, but with a little bit of time and practice, you’ll start to feel the benefits this drill can give you. The continuous swinging movement of your arms, right and to the left, right and to the left. You’ll start to feel a more natural timing and tempo to your swing. You’ll start to feel the flow. The weight shift between your right foot and your left foot will start to match the swinging movement of your arms. And as a result, you’ll start to strike the ball very solid. You’ll start to gain the trust back in your swing, and that’s the goal. Once you’ve got the trust in this, once you’ve started to hit the ball well, you’ve now got a feel back in your swing. You now can remember what it feels like to time up your swing, match your arms and your body together. Go ahead and repeat that with one golf ball. So, it should look something like this.
So three in a row. It’s a great drill to get the natural timing, tempo, weight shift back in your swing, and to gain the trust in your swing, which you’ve lost.
