Hi. Robin Symes here with another simple drill to help you improve separation between your upper body and your lower body. As I’ve said before, it’s a key fundamental to an efficient golf swing. If you watch some of my other videos on the same subject, you may have come across “Hip Twister” and this is simply continuing on from that. We call this “Hip Twister 2,” it’s a little more advanced. We’re adding one component. I want you to start in the same fashion by taking a five iron address with a club across your shoulders. The component we’re going to add is shoulder rotation to the right. We’re going to rotate your shoulders slightly to the right before we twist our hips to the left. So, we rotate to the right, we then rotate our hips to the left and that creates the separation between lower body and upper body. If the club was to move with your hips, that’s giving you the signal that you’re not stabilizing your upper body, and your upper body and your lower body are moving together. Simply, small rotation to the right, hips rotate to the left creating separation. And then once you become comfortable you can then accelerate your shoulders through the shot. I like people to start with that exercise, the club across the shoulders, but once you become comfortable you can go ahead and make some small swings in the same fashion. Small rotation to the right, perhaps the club will be waist high. Stabilize, your upper body, rotate your hips to the left, and then accelerate through the shot. So, “Hip Twister 2,” I want you to give it a try.
