Hi, Robin Symes here. I want to show you a simple drill to help you create separation between your upper body and your lower body, a key fundamental in an efficient golf swing.
The drill’s name is hip twister and it’s as simple as this: I want you to hold the club across your chest, taking a five iron address. Simply, we’re going to keep our upper body stable while we twist our hips. If the club was to move, that’s signalling that you’re not keeping your upper body stable, and there’s no separation between upper body and lower body.
With the club stable, twist your hips, that isolates the separation in the most basic way. And once you have a feel for that, in your golf swing the movement is just the same. Once you reach the top of your back swing, you’re going to keep your upper body stable as your lower body starts to rotate, creating some separation. It’s a hip twister, give it a try.
