Chrome Tour in, Chrome Soft out? Not quite, but Callaway’s golf ball lineup has had a serious refresh for 2024. Here’s everything you need to know…
Callaway Chrome Tour Golf Balls
Callaway has essentially redesigned these golf balls from the inside out, and there are three key core technologies that have spearheaded this. These are the HyperFast Soft Core, Seamless Tour Aero, and the High-Performance Tour Urethane Soft Cover, all have been developed around Callaway’s Precision Technology theme.
The design question for the new balls was how can the soft cover be used for spin and consistency while still managing spin rates with the driver and long irons? The substructure had to be changed to give those lower spin rates in the longer clubs.
Ball speed and distance have been added via the HyperFast Soft Core. Callaway has an entirely new rubber system which gives the target compression and gives the best feel and speed balance.
Seamless Tour Aero refers to a new, uniquely designed aerodynamic package to bring more consistency into the golf ball flight. Each model of golf ball has its own individual dimple pattern relative to what launch properties each golf ball needs.
The new design features a combination of Callaway’s hexagonal surface geometry with strategically placed spherical dimples that provide stability through the entire ball flight.
The High-Performance Tour Urethane Soft Cover is for optimised greenside spin and control. Across the range, this provides more spin so better players can get the control they need with short irons and around the greens.
All of this upgraded technology really comes off the back of Callaway updating their manufacturing processes over the last few years to make production and quality control much tighter. Each time a golf ball is made in their factory in Chicopee, there are over 100 million proof points allowing the technology to be meticulously measured before it goes to market, delivering the most consistent performance possible.
Callaway Chrome Tour
This golf ball sits in a new space for Callaway. Chrome Soft X has been extremely popular on tour recently, but Chrome Soft didn’t quite have the same traction. Callaway used this data to look at what the better player wanted in this area. The opportunity was to target a product that was slightly softer than the Chrome Soft X and had a more penetrating flight.
As a result, this is designed to be slightly softer than the Chrome Tour X but also to spin less. It is perfect for golfers who want to hit the ball hard and don’t want to have to worry about pulling back to decrease spin.
Callaway Chrome Tour X
This is designed to be Callaway’s fastest golf ball, especially with the driver, but it is also their highest-spinning model. The new aero package is designed to deliver a more penetrating flight with enhanced workability. Callaway’s internal testing has shown this to be 1.5mph faster than the previous Chrome Soft X golf ball.
Callaway Chrome Soft
This golf ball has been immensely popular for Callaway and is targeted at the aspirational golfer looking for a tour-quality ball. The overall peak height has been increased to help maximise carry distance and total distance for all golfers. Overall, this is the softest golf ball in the Callaway Chrome family line-up.
