There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.
What We Tried:
Rhoback Golf Apparel. Your dad’s favorite apparel brand and your mom’s favorite golf influencer’s favorite apparel brand. I put three popular Rhoback items to the test including a Rhoback polo, quarter-zip and hoodie.
Who Tried It:
Connor. Director of Soft Goods Testing and resident sneakerhead. I believe golf is better with a pair of cool shoes and comfortable joggers.
What the heck is Rhoback?
That cute little dog logo you’ve seen on the shoulder of influencers and golfers galore? That’s Rhoback. Based in Charlottesville, Va., (a few hours up the road from MyGolfSpy HQ), the guys there set out to create apparel that can seamlessly transition from activity to activity.
I’ve been wanting to give their stuff a try for a while. That time has come.
Rhoback Polo Review
Let’s start with the Rhoback polo. Available in various colors and patterns, the Rhoback polo is great on and off the course. The lightweight construction provided great breathability and stood up well both in the humidity of Virginia and the dry desert heat of Arizona.
My favorite thing about the Rhoback golf polo is the collar. Man, did they nail the collar design. The thicker-than-most collar lays perfectly flat at all times, no matter how many times it is washed. Ever used those little eye-stays in a dress shirt? The collar of the Rhoback polo has a similar effect.
This fixes the detail that most often plagues otherwise solid golf polo shirts: the dreaded “bacon” collar. A wavy, drooping collar is a surefire way to keep the cart girl away.
The fit was true to size. Long enough to tuck in (if that’s your thing) and fitted enough to keep the material from interfering with your swing or putting stroke.
Rhoback Q-Zip Review
Perhaps the quintessential piece of golf clothing is the quarter-zip. And no one takes it more seriously than Rhoback.
Between the slick patterns and comfortable fit, the Rhoback Q-Zip is hard to beat. I’m a particular fan of the fun houndstooth patterns but they have plenty of solids and stripes for those of you who are a little less adventurous.
The Rhoback Q-Zip provides ample warmth from the chilly wind and even UV protection for your sensitive skin.
Did I mention it’s soft? Rhoback’s Q-Zip is the most comfortable quarter-zip that’s ever graced my torso. I did find the arm length to be a little long for my liking but that’s neither here nor there. Not enough of a problem to keep me from playing in it.
Rhoback Hoodie Review
The Rhoback hoodie is quite possibly the softest piece of clothing I’ve ever owned. Man, is it soft. It’s the perfect weight for lounging or for a night out.
The form-fitting Rhoback hoodie is also great for the golf course. It’s light enough and provides UV protection for a sunny day but provides coverage and warmth when it gets a little chilly. The polyester and nylon blend provides perfect stretch for freedom of moment on the course or on the couch.
My one gripe? I would love a kangaroo pocket. It’s just personal preference but somewhere to keep my hands nice and toasty is always a welcome addition.
Once You Go Rhoback, You’ll Never Go Back
All in all, the Rhoback golf apparel lineup is flat-out awesome. The well-designed, well-constructed polo, quarter-zip and hoodie are expensive but worth it if you’re willing to spend a couple of extra dollars for quality. Whether you’re on the hunt for your new favorite polo or the softest hoodie to grace God’s green earth, you can’t go wrong with a little Rhoback action.
