The Ping Hoofer Lite stand bag is part the latest golf bag range from Ping. It is much more compact than the full-sized version, but is it capable of accommodating all the kit you need? I took it out on the course to find out.

First Impressions
I used to be one of those golfers who liked to be ready for anything on the course. As a younger man, I wanted the most capacious carry bag and I would arm it with waterproofs, a hat, several gloves, a drink, a snack, a year’s worth of pitchmark tools – not sure why but I seem to accumulate them – several gloves, a laser, a GPS, sufficient balls so that I would never stress about running out, alignment sticks, wallet, keys and you get the idea. Factor in the natural cluttering that we all experience over a period of time – yardage books, bananas and stale water mainly – and every last pocket was stuffed to bursting.
As a more mature individual, I am realising the error of my ways. I still much prefer to carry and relish being able to walk directly to my ball.
Increasingly, though, I travel light. Or lighter. I am much better at decluttering on a round-by-round basis and six balls really is more than ample. A water bottle and a light jacket are just about all I need beyond a glove and some accessories.
The bag weighs only 5lb, while the pockets are designed with maximum efficiency in mind. The apparel pocket has a full-length zipper for easier access, and the Ping Hoofer Lite features a four-way top to organize clubs and nine pockets.
Further features include adjustable shoulder pads so you can distribute the weight evenly, a cushioned hip pad to ensure comfort while carrying and a new strap connector so you can interchange easily between carrying with two straps or just the one.
NCG Verdict
The Hoofer Lite is more than capable of bearing the load and is much more compact than the full-sized standard Hoofer, making it perfect for players who want to carry less weight. There is a valuables pouch, a big side pocket, somewhere to keep your tees, a front pocket and a smaller side pocket for balls. It is basically telling you: there is room for all you could possibly need here, but nothing more.
I have always found Ping’s dual straps comfortable and tough, as well as easy to adjust to your preference. This is a rugged, functional bag that is just perfect for your daily golfing adventures.
It feels durable, it’s super-comfortable to carry, and there is ample room for all of your gear and gadgets.
