TaylorMade have slimmed down their iron line-up for 2022 offering a smaller sleeker Stealth iron but also moving down to just one game improvement iron model.
TaylorMade Stealth irons: First Impressions
Game improvement irons are not known for their good looks but TaylorMade are looking to switch that narrative on its head with the introduction of the super sleek Stealth iron.
I love the striking design here and I think you’ll all agree it is a much cleaner more elegant design than the previous SIM2 offering.
TaylorMade Stealth irons: The Line-up
The Stealth irons sit just above the P790 irons in TaylorMade’s extensive iron line-up. As a game improvement iron they are designed to be the most forgiving iron model they have to offer.
They are a cavity back design and are really aimed at that mid to high handicap golfer or even new players taking up the game.
TaylorMade Stealth irons: The Technology
You can see the back shaping has changed quite significantly from the SIM2. That is thanks to a new “Cap Back” design that wraps all the way round the toe. This shifts the mass from high in the toe of the club to lower down near the sole creating a lower centre of gravity. This makes the irons easy to launch throughout the set.
A key selling point of these irons is the extra distance available. The irons feature a fast, forgiving face that is specifically designed to provide faster ball speeds from the areas on the face golfers hit the most.
Again we see the thru-slot speed pocket is featured on the sole. This is engineered to allow the bottom of the face to be more flexibly so if you catch a ball low of the face you won’t lose as much ball speed.
A key to making a cavity back iron feel good is have a system to reduce unwanted vibrations at impact. TaylorMade use the Echo Dampening System, a soft polymer blend that sits behind numerous points of the face to channel those vibrations and give a more forged-like feel at impact.
